Two and a half years after the first delivery of vehicles, the delivery of an XPeng P7 in December 2018, XPeng has reached the milestone with 200,000 vehicle deliveries – of course all 100% electric vehicles.
XPeng benefits from jumping on the scene, just as the electricity market got hot before older carmakers were serious competitors, and in the hottest car and electricity market in the world – China. Nevertheless, an increase from 0 to 200,000 in 2 and a half years is remarkable achievement and we can expect much more growth in the next two and a half years.
XPeng announced that it was producing more than 10,000 vehicles one month in September 2021. That equates to 120,000+ per year. In the 8 months that followed, however, XPeng produced 100,000 vehicles, half of its total life. And keep in mind, this is despite the global Covid-19 pandemic and a global supply chain crisis.
“The company delivered a total of 98,155 smart electric cars in 2021, surpassing all other new electric cars in China.”
Being the # 1 EV startup in China is no small feat.

What about the future? The good news is that XPeng has two major new product rollouts coming in the second half of this year, and also two new models in 2023.
First of all, XPeng will launch the “City Navigation Guided Pilot” in consumer cars over the next few months. This will boost its level 2 driver assistance technology and can bring it to a level comparable to any other ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) on the market in terms of practical use on the ground. We will see!

XPeng will also launch a new SUV, the G9. If there is one thing that buyers of new cars want more than anything else, it is an SUV. I saw the segment go from almost non-existent to extremely popular in my 11 years where I lived in Europe, and the segment is definitely the king of death in the US (where XPeng does not yet sell cars… but stay tuned). SUVs are not that dominant in China, but it is still a growing segment and electric SUVs have performed very well there.
I’m sure we’ll get more XPeng news soon. It renews quickly and gets more and more eyes. With around 200,000 XPeng owners on the move, word of mouth will also continue to spread.
How did XPENG grow from a start-up to reach the 200,000 delivery milestone? One of its earliest customers @ElliotChina shares his story in the next #InsideXPENG episode.
