Who is Elma Saiz, the new Minister of Social Security who replaces José Luis Escrivá

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has chosen the Navarrese Elma Saizcurrently spokesperson for the PSN in the Pamplona City Council, as Minister of Social Security.

Until now, José Luis Escrivá He was the one who held the portfolio of the Inclusion, Social Security and Migration department, which now acquires a new structure. Escrivá, for his part, becomes Minister of Digital Transformation in this next Government, which he will have 22 ministries, the same number as it has now, and 12 portfolios will be led by women.

Elma Saiz was born in Pamplona in 1975, she is married and is the mother of two children. She is Graduate in Law and Master’s Degree in Tax Consulting from the University of Navarra. She began her professional career in 1999 as managing partner of the IME consultancy.

In the academic field, she was a collaborator in the Master’s Degree in Business Law and the Master’s Degree in Tax Consulting at the University of Navarra, as well as in the School of Legal Practice and in the Law degree at the same university center.

He has also participated as a teacher in the Master’s Degree in Tax, Labor and Accounting Consulting at the Public University of Navarra and has given various professional certificates.

Head of the PSOE list in Navarra

Parliamentarian of Socialist Party of Navarra during the years 2003 and 2007. Subsequently, it was delegate of the Government of Spain in Navarra between 2008-2012, becoming at the age of 32 the first woman to hold this position in the Foral Community and the youngest person to hold it until that moment. Additionally, she was director of the Navarro Institute for Equality and Family in 2012.

Since June 2019, she has been a councilor for the Pamplona City Council. Saiz was PSN candidate for mayor of Pamplona in the municipal elections of May 28 and previously, and in the last legislature, she was Minister of Economy and Finance in the Government of Navarra.

Saiz has also occupied the Presidency of the Association of Self-Employed Workers and Entrepreneurs of Navarra and a member position on the executive of the Union of Professionals and Self-Employed Workers of UGT. In 2006 she, along with other socialist colleagues, launched the association ‘Now them’ with the aim of advancing real equality between men and women.
