Up to 9 feared dead as ship sinks off South Korea

Up to 9 crew members are feared dead after the Hong Kong-flagged 6,551 dwt general cargo ship
Jin Tian sank in icy, windy waters between South Korea and Japan early this morning.

South Korean and Japanese coast guard vessels and aircraft as well as two commercial ships combed the area south of Jeju Island today and managed to pick up 13 crew members after a distress call was sent out near midnight with the ship then abandoned.

The ship was carrying timber from Papua New Guinea to South Korea.
