Stefan Kuntz, one step away from leaving the Turkish national team
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has ended the mandate of German Stefan Kuntz as coach of the national team, several local media reported this Sunday, including public broadcaster TRT. The TFF is expected to officially announce next Tuesday the dismissal of the 60-year-old coach who took over in September 2021 with a contract that was to end in June 2024.
Among the candidates being considered in the Turkish press are the Italian Vincenzo Montella and the Turks Abdullah Avci, Fatih Terim and Sergen Yalçin, although the great favorite is the German Joachim Löw. The 63-year-old coach, whose last adventure was as Germany coach at Euro 2020 and who left the position a year later, is the best positioned for the Turkish bench.
With Kuntz, Turkey played a total of 20 games, of which they won 12, lost 5 and tied 3. After playing five games in the qualifying phase for Euro 2024, the Turkish team occupies 2nd place in group D and will have to face to Croatia on October 12 in the sixth match.
