Families learn of the death of their loved ones at the reunification center

The BBC has been in contact with local officials and media in Maine throughout the morning, trying to gather as many details as possible about the shootings that occurred the night before.

One of the people they have been talking to is Susan Sharondeputy news director at Maine Public Radiowho has reported that the hospitals in the area have been filled with families “who are waiting for news about the condition of a loved one“.

Sharon has also described how helicopters have been flying to and from the hospital, presumably transporting victims.

During a conversation with the BBC, Sharon mentioned that she had just returned to Auburnnext to Lewiston and separated by the Androscoggin River, where a reunification center has been established for witnesses to reconnect with their families.

Auburn Mayor Jason Levesque briefed reportersincluding Sharon, that some people at the center had been informed that their loved ones were among the deceased. “We’re going to get through this,” Levesque told the affected families.
