Breno Lopes scored the goal that gave victory against Goiás in stoppage timefor the Brasileirão, and celebrated by showing the middle finger to the fans which was at Allianz Parque.
After the final whistle, Breno Lopes said nothing. Abel Ferreira, Raphael Veiga and Weverton gave interviews and were unanimous: everyone came to the athlete’s defense.
Later that day at Allianz Parque, the UOL contacted the player’s press office and heard that a statement from the athlete would be published the day after the episode.
September 16th, Saturday
On the day that Breno Lopes was going to speak out, Palmeiras declared the case closed. The board understood the context of the player’s celebration, as he was the target of much criticism from Palmeiras fans, and decided not to punish him. Furthermore, the athlete has a lot of prestige with the coaching staff and teammates.
