Realme 8s 5G Unboxing And First Impressions

Realme has launched two new smartphones during the Realme 8 series in India – Realme 8s 5G and Realme 8i. Speaking of Relame 8s 5G, it’s the world’s first smartphone with the latest 6nm Dimensity 810 5G processor from MediaTek. Inside the box we got Realme 8s 5G smartphone in blue. It is also available in the purple color. The device comes with a 33W Dart Charge adapter, USB Type-C cable, SIM ejector tool, transparent TPU case, quick start guide and product information booklet.

The back of the unit comes with a matte matte finish. In contrast to the glossy finish, which will be smooth and fingerprint magnet, the Realme 8s 5G with the matte finish feels good in the hand. It measures 8.8 mm in thickness and weighs about 191 grams. The power button on the right side also acts as a fingerprint scanner. On the left we have a volume rocker and a triple card slot with support for two nano SIM cards and a MicroSD card. The individual speaker, primary microphone and USB Type-C port are on the underside.

There is only a secondary microphone on the top of the device. On the front we have a 6.5 inch LCD display with Full HD + resolution. The screen has a 90hz refresh rate and 600 nit brightness. There is also a hole-cut cutout to accommodate the selfie camera. The camera is located in the upper left corner for games without distraction or for viewing. In addition, the display offers good colors and wide viewing angles. With the 90Hz refresh rate, the UI feels very smooth in daily use.

You can also switch to a 60Hz refresh rate to save battery life. With the latest MediaTek Dimensity 810 5G chipset, the Realme 8s 5G offers a stable all-day experience. It has 2x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz and 6x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2 GHz. The 2-core Mali-G57 GPU fits the gaming needs. While the device is available in 6 GB and 8 GB RAM variants, the company also includes the Dynamic RAM Expansion (DRE) technology to expand RAM by an additional 5 GB. When enabled, the device allocates 5 GB of internal storage for use as virtual RAM.

Both RAM variants include 128 GB UFS 2.2 flash drive. For most tasks, there is no need to use the virtual RAM. Even the basic variant with 6 GB of RAM is good enough to handle a majority of apps. In terms of games, the device handles them comfortably, even the graphics-intensive ones, but in medium-sized settings. However, prolonged playback makes the device hot and performance is limited in place. When it comes to daily performance, the Dimensity 810 chipset, along with a 90Hz screen, works better than most other sub Rs 20,000 smartphones.

The device runs on the latest Realme UI 2.0 based on Android 11 out of the box. On the back, the Realme 8s has a triple camera setup and LED flash. It includes a 64 megapixel primary camera with f / 1.8 aperture, a 2 megapixel B&W portrait lens with f / 2.4 aperture and a 2 megapixel macro lens with f / 2.4 aperture. Without the other two sensors, the 64MP Omnivision OV64B sensor performs as expected. The same sensor is also used on several other Realme smartphones. Note that it is not capable of recording videos in 4k resolution, even 1080p video recording is limited to 30 fps.

On the front there is a 16MP selfie camera with f / 2.1 aperture. Although the output from the front camera is decent in daylight, it fights poorly in poor lighting conditions. The device is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery and supports 33W Dart Charge fast charging technology. Even if used at a refresh rate of 90 Hz, it easily lasts a full day of regular use. The power-efficient chipset ensures that there is no need to switch to 60Hz refresh rate. However, we cannot comment on how it works when used on a 5G network.

In terms of connectivity, the Realme 8s support Dual-SIM 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack and USB Type-C port. It also comes with Hi-Res Audio support, which is lacking on most other smartphones in this price range. The Realme 8s 5G is priced at Rs 17,999 for the 6 GB RAM variant and Rs 19,999 for the 8 GB RAM variant. It will be sold from 13 September at 12.00 According to the company, Realme 8s 5G will be available through Flipkart, and major offline stores across the country.
