Poundland has shut down at least 12 branches across the country since February and is planning two more closures in June.
A number of stores are closing because their lease expired, and some will be relocating to other areas.
Despite this year’s closures, the retailer is currently working on a 50-store expansion plan and will be opening two stores this month and 15 more in August. Poundland’s expansion plans will create up to 800 new jobs, the company explained.
Managing director of Poundland, Barry Williams, commented: “That transformation means we have to step up our search for the best locations”.
The aim is “to bring the best of Poundland to customers across the UK and that’s precisely what we’ll do in 2023”.
