Óscar Puente prioritizes accelerating the transition towards healthy, sustainable and safe mobility

The new Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, today took possession of the ministerial portfolio and, in his speech, announced that his main objective is to accelerate the decarbonization of mobility throughout the country. “Spain is a country that has to make the transition towards healthy, sustainable and safe mobility as soon as possible. It has to be done at high speed. That is my main purpose,” he assured after thanking the until now Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, for the work done.

In this sense, the minister has requested the support and commitment of all administrations to make this much-needed transition a reality to help improve the quality of life of citizens and confront climate change. “I will need the help of all of you and, of course, the rest of the administrations, autonomous communities and city councils that are going to have to cooperate in the work,” he stated.

During his speech, Óscar Puente pointed out that, in general terms, the Ministry’s objectives are “magnificently on track” and highlighted that “there is already a huge amount of infrastructure underway and planned that is going to make our country a much more more competitive.” A clear example is the Pajares variant, which will be launched next week, more than two decades after it was devised.

Thus, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has explained that his job at the head of the portfolio will be to advance the projects that are already underway and plan new ones, which will be developed over time and hand in hand with public workers, Another of its objectives is to do things. “I am in politics to do, not to be,” he stressed.

“I want to show my gratitude to the people who have made this ministry a kind of perfect chain in which events occur over time and some think about them, others develop them and others enjoy them,” the minister highlighted. , who also wanted to recognize the work of the ministers who preceded him in office.

A few words that reflect the minister’s strong commitment to the public and public service and to the Government’s project, which has a fundamental mission in this country, social justice. “That is the engine that moves us, justice, equality, freedom too, in capital letters,” he stated.

At this point, Óscar Puente has shown his conviction that citizens are going to benefit from the policies developed by this ministry. Policies such as the promotion of the railway as a priority mode to accelerate decarbonization, the use of public transport, with measures such as discounts, which will be extended in 2024, the improvement of Cercanías and the development of trans-European transport networks and intermodality .
