The London Marathon has increased the prize money on offer for wheelchair events and this year’s men’s and women’s winners will receive £36,210 ($45,000) each, up from £28,160 ($35,000) last year. The overall prize pot for wheelchair athletes has also increased to £203,970 ($253,500) this year, up from £160,520 in October.

Prize money is set to be on offer for the top 10 men and women wheelchair athletes. There is further prize money available for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Flying 400 competition, the fastest wheelchair racer over a set 400-metre distance.
