Jaideep Ahlawat said he was so much in awe of watching Shah Rukh Khan perform that he just couldn’t focus on the scene properly, which the superstar figured.
When actor Jaideep Ahlawat stood in front of Shah Rukh Khan for his first ever shot with the superstar, he forgot all his lines. Jaideep says the only time in his life that he was “star struck” was when he worked with Shah Rukh in the 2017 action thriller Raees.
Directed by Rahul Dholakia, Raees marked the first collaboration between Shah Rukh and the Paatal Lok actor. In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Jaideep said he did Raees “only for Shah Rukh Khan” and recalled his first shot for the film with the superstar.
“The call time for my first scene was 9.40 in the morning. I was sitting, when suddenly Khan sahab walked in and the whole atmosphere changed, and we greeted each other. It was all ok, I am trained for this (as an actor). I kept looking at him, not making it too obvious. Then we did the rehearsal, spoke our lines.

“But when the actual take began, then King Khan became the actor King Khan. I just kept looking at him, thinking, ‘I have seen this face millions of times!’ and I became the audience, I forgot that I am an actor. I have been start struck only once in my life and it was with him,” he added.
Breaking the ice with King Khan
The actor said he was so much in awe of watching Shah Rukh perform that he just couldn’t focus on the scene properly, which the latter figured and asked the unit for a five-minute break. The break naturally got extended to 15-minute, by which time Jaideep had become comfortable enough with Shah Rukh to perform the scene with ease.
“Now, I am running ten second late (in my reaction). So of course, Khan sahab figured, he is such a big man. He called for a quick five-minute break and tried explaining to me what all has happened so far in the story leading to that specific scene so that I could relate better. He knew that I had to first calm down, so that I can be normal. The five-minute break turned into 15-min and he just kept talking to me. Because of that conversation, I became comfortable in his presence and that scene was done in one take.”
Post the shot, though, Jaideep said Shah Rukh kept pulling his leg for the next three days. He said, ‘Jaha bhi teri acting kharab hogi, mera reaction shot daal dege tension mat le!’”

The actor said he asked Shah Rukh a lot of questions and pointed how the star makes people feel “most important” when they talk to him. Jaideep also hoped to work with him in a role that’s longer than what he had in Raees.
“Anyone who has met him will say how he makes you feel like the most important person in the world if you are with him. You will be flattered. He truly speaks his heart out. So, the three-four days of shoot was a brilliant experience. I wish to work with him on a longer schedule, because he is an experience,” he added.
Jaideep is currently awaiting the release of Jaane Jaan. The Netflix thriller stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Vijay Verma and is directed by Sujoy Ghosh. Shah Rukh, meanwhile, is basiking in the box office glory of his latest release Jawan, which is expected to be the highest grossing Bollywood film of all time, beating the record of his own film, Pathaan.
