PETALING JAYA: Despite leading the Malaysia Under-23 to the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup, E. Elavarasan has resigned from his position as the team coach.
The 61-year-old held discussions with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and stated that he wants to focus on assisting national team coach Kim Pan-gon in the Harimau Malaya setup.
Even though Malaysia qualified for the Asian Cup, many fans criticised Elavarasan’s coaching, saying that the team needed a different coach.
Elavarasan took over the team in September last year, replacing Australian Brad Maloney; he also held his position as the national assistant coach at the same time.
A year under him saw Harimau Muda winning the Merlion Cup this year and also qualifying for the semi-final of the AFF Under-23 Championship in Rayong last month.
