Spanish Barcelona is close to reaching the eighth final of the European Champions League, after its victory – today, Wednesday – over Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 in the third round of Group H in the competition.
Barcelona raised its score to 9 points at the top of the group, after winning the three matches it has played so far, while Shakhtar Donetsk’s score froze at 3 points in third place, on goal difference behind Portuguese Porto, which plays tonight against Belgian Royal Antwerp.
Barcelona’s two goals were scored by Ferran Torres in the 28th minute, and Fermin Lopez scored the second goal in the 36th minute.

In the 62nd minute, Georgi Sudakov scored the only goal for Shakhtar.
Feyenoord temporarily leads
In Group E, Feyenoord Rotterdam temporarily topped the group standings in the main continental championship, following its great 3-1 victory over its Italian guest, Lazio.
Feyenoord, which returned to the path of victories in the group that it missed in the last round with a 3-2 loss to its Spanish host Atletico Madrid, rose to 6 points in the lead, two points ahead of third-placed Lazio.
Mexican Santiago Jimenez opened the scoring for Feyenoord in the 31st minute, before his teammate Ramez Zerrougui added the second goal in the second minute of stoppage time for the first half.
In the second half, Jimenez scored again, scoring Feyenoord’s third goal and his second personal goal in the 74th minute, while Pedro scored Lazio’s only goal in the 83rd minute from a penalty kick.
Scottish club Celtic (bottom of the standings with no points) is scheduled to meet its guest, Atletico Madrid, who is in second place with 4 points, later today, Wednesday, in the same round.
