Olympic bronze medallist. Eliza McCartney is looking forward to jumping at the Athletissima Lusanne Diamond League on 30 June.

After six years battling with Achilles and hamstring injuries, McCartney will be jumping to new heights going against the world’s best.

“Just under one month till I’m competing again but this time in Europe….Cant wait to be back on that world stage”, McCartney shared on Instagram.

McCartney’s last Diamond League meet was 2018 in Monaco, clearing 4.75m to finish seventh overall.

In the same year she had jumped at previous Diamond League’s with a height of 4.85m for second in Eugene and 4.72m for fourth in Lausanne.

After an outstanding domestic season, she looks towards qualifying for the Paris Olympics next year.

Olympic qualification opens up for New Zealand track and field athletes in July and the she will need to jump 4.73m to solidify her spot on the Paris team.

McCartney is only 2cm shy from the Olympic qualifying height, jumping a World Track and Field qualifier (4.71m) at the Brisbane Track Classic in March.

In March the 26-year-old won her first national championships since 2017 with a height of 4.61m beating Birmingham Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Imogen Ayris and two-time Commonwealth representative, Olivia McTaggart.

The Budapest World Track and Field Championships will be held in August.
