Last October, Apple launched an AirPods Pro service program for devices suffering from crackling and static sound issues. The program was originally intended to cover AirPods Pro devices for two years from their date of sale. However, Apple has now quietly updated the app to extend it by another year.
This means that the service program runs for three years, and if you face static or crackling sound problems on your AirPods Pro, you can have it replaced by Apple.
Apple solved the cracking problem in AirPods Pro devices manufactured after October 2020, with only devices sold before that affected by this issue.
Apple says affected AirPods Pro devices may have one of the following issues:
- Crackling or static sounds rising in loud surroundings, with exercise or while talking on the phone
- Active noise reduction does not work as expected, e.g. Loss of bass sound or an increase in background sounds, e.g. Street or aircraft noise
The AirPods Pro service application is valid worldwide and also covers devices that are not covered by the warranty. If you purchased the AirPods Pro right after launching in 2019, you have until October 2022 to visit your nearest Apple store or service provider to resolve the issue.
